Born on a plantation in South Georgia, Mary Grace Sudduth graduates from the Medical College of Georgia. She is accepted to do her residency in Utah. There she meets and falls in love with Heber Smith, a dermatologist. Her marriage causes some consternation with her parents. Eventually, she finds out her husband is a polygamist, Try as she might she cannot accept polygamy. Then Heber announces he is going to take a fifth wife, the daughter of Mary Graces best friend. Mary Grace kills Heber to save the daughter. Then Mary Grace kills two other polygamist men. Knowing Mary Grace killed his son, Hyrum Smith arranges for Mary Grace to go to a polygamist colony in the high mountains of Mexico. There Hyrum can and does kill Mary Grace. Her parents try to find her in Utah but to no avail. They hire Theo Reed and Aiden O'Brien. The hunt gets both the FBI and the Mexican Federal Police involved and together they find the colony as well as scandalous behaviour by the polygamists. A big raid is planned and the bad people involved in the schemes are brought to justice. Mary Grace had a love interest at the colony, Brad Nelson, a soldier returned from the middle east with PTSD so bad the colony was the only safe place for him. He nad mary Grace fall in love but he helps with her murder. Mary Grace's body is found and returned to the plantation. Burned in his capture brad is hospitalized and terribly disfigured. Mary Grace's parents take him in to live and work on the plantation
Description
Mary Grace Sudduth lives on her family plantation in south Georgia. Beautiful ad intelligent she goes to a medical college in Georgia, and gopes to Utah to complete her residency. There she meets Heber Smith, a dermatologist. He woes her and they marry. This upsets her parents, mostly because Mary Grace must marry in the temple in Salt Lake City and not being Mormons her parents cannot attend. After the wedding, Heber's personality changes and he becomes a tyrant. Then thinking Heber is having an affair a private investigator finds Heber is a polygamist with three other wives and six children. Mary Grace tried to make the best of t his but when Heber decides to take a fifth wife and the woman is to be the daughter of Mary Grace's best friend, Mary Grace kills Heber, with a muscle relaxant. Then Mary Grace kills her best friend's husband because he is intent on his daughter living in a polygamist relationship. Her best friend is actually the one who gives her husband the muscle relaxant, Then Ellen, the best friend has a friend who is in a terrible relationship and whose husband is molesting his three daughters. Hyrum Smith learns the sheriff's office is investigating Mary Grace and entices her to leave town with him. He takes her to a polygamist colony in the high Mexican mountains. There she meets Brad Nelson, a returned soldier with severe PTSD. They fall in love, but Brad owns is well being to the prophet of the community who has promised Hyrum he can come to the colony and kIll Mary Grace, for "Blood Atonement," a Mormon dictate that says when a person commits a crime that is so serious, the only way they can achieve salvbationis to have their blood spilled on the ground. Mary Grace's parents hire Theo Reed, a retired chief of detectives and Aiden O' Brian a forensic psychiatrist. Their investigation determines Mary Grace is in Mexico. The FBI and the Mexican Federal police get involved as does a Special Prosecutor. Hyrum Smith and his wife are arrested, the prophet is arrested for his involvement in Mary Grace's murder and fraud against the government and the colony is searched and evidence found. Brad tried to get away butin the chase with offfficers he is terribly burned and hosptialized. Mary Grace's body is found and she is buried at her favorite spot on the plantation. Eventually, Mary Grace's parents decide to have Brad live and work at the plantation. Brad is so badly disfigured he woudl have little chance. All this time Mary Grace's mother has felt her daughter is dead but doing fine on the other side as she is visited by a strange butterfly.
About the author
Mr Warberg writes under the name Brent W. A. Henderson. He taught high school English for three years then entered on Dugy with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. After his retirement, he worked as a therapist for Gene G. Abel, MD, treating sexual offenders. After seven years he attended polygraph school then did polygraphs of sex offenders on probation or parole in Georgia, New York and Connecticut. He holds two masters degrees on in Emotional Disturbance and one in social work. This is his fourth book. He and his wife of 55 years reside in the North Georgia mountains. Al Dixon is a solicitor for the city of College Park, Georgia and or Fayette County Georgis. Prior to the he was a lead attorney in the Fulton County, Georgia DA's office. He lives in College Park, Georgia
