About the author
Warren C. McDowell many of his endeavors, he started a newsmagazine The Fire Island Tide. He also held positions as associate publisher of the Sag harbor Express , Shelter Island Reporter, and publisher/editor of the Review newspapers. His historical contributions and photography can be seen today in numerous books, to include his recent book Fire Island Saga a narrative on how Fire Island got its name and the history of the barrier beach. Warren has an educational /business background from Southwester University and Indiana University with a bachelor's and masters degrees. A lifelong resident of Blue Point, attending Blue Point Elementary School, he graduated from Bayport Highschool and retired as a volunteer firemen from Blue Point Fire Department. A decorated member of the United States Army, Warren also served in the New York Army National Guard. He received three national Defense Medals with two Bronze Star devices for Vietnam, Iraqi Freedom, Desert Storm, the Medal of Valor, and Soldiers Medal for heroism. He also served at the World Trade Center "Ground Zero" and was awarded the New York Defense of Liberty Medal. Blue Point, the name taken for granted for hundreds of years, historical events during the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812 cannot go unnoticed, in this book, McDowell rectifies and pays homage to those who gave their lives for this community and country.
