Overview

What is it like to be a doll living in a home with other dolls who run around and do interesting things? What do you do when others don't want to allow you to be who you are? How do you cope when things you're used to change? What do you do if you have a problem you can't solve, no matter what? Billy likes to have fun, but he also likes to be helpful. Follow Billy's adventures and struggles as he works things out, sometimes by himself and sometimes with the help of others. "Billy" is a graphic storybook for children. The characters are dolls. The illustrations are photos of the characters doing what the reader is learning about in the stories. Each story is independent.

Description

The doll Billy finds himself living in a real house with other dolls, along with two old people and their dogs. Billy has known who he was from the time he was manufactured and insists on being allowed to be who he is. He finds himself living in a home where he is supported in this, but things don't always go his way. He doesn't like things to change, once he is used to them. He struggles with rules when things happen that make following the rules difficult, but he likes to be helpful and enjoys doing things for others. Billy likes to have fun, and he wants to stay out of trouble. Sometimes those two things conflict. "Billy" is a graphic storybook for children. The illustrations are photos of the dolls in action, demonstrating what the reader is learning about in the stories. The photos tell the story, making it easier for beginning readers or children too young to read to understand the story. Each story is independent and ends with a "Reader's Challenge:" questions to give the reader something to think about, which allows the book to grow with the child.

About The Author

The author grew up in New England and moved to California as a teenager. With husband and children she has lived in many states in the US as well as elsewhere in the world. She has worked in various fields as the family relocated due to her husband's job. Her occupations included teaching, social work, and magazine writing and editing. The interest in pediatric cancer stems from volunteer work with Therapy Animals of Utah, where she and one of her dogs visited camp Hobé, a summer camp for children impacted by cancer. This led to the decision to donate the royalties from the book to pediatric cancer research and treatment. She is currently retired and living in Bend, Oregon, with her husband and two dogs. The Doll's Storybook originated as a weekly story blog for the author's grandchildren in June 2018. There is a story every week. Royalties from the books go to a charity that supports pediatric cancer research and treatment.
