Overview
Christian/Christoph Bernhardt and his wife, Wilhelmine Althof migrated from Ehringshausen, Germany to the United States in 1852 with several young children. Arriving in New York City, they soon made their way to Erie, Pennsylvania, and remained there until their deaths. Some of Wilhelmine's siblings also traveled to Erie about the same time, and soon became well known for their accomplishments in business. Christoph's brother John Conrad and his family soon migrated and settled in Erie, too. As the years rolled by, Bernhardt descendants began moving out in every direction: Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Indiana, Missouri, Iowa, Indiana, Florida, and California, and other states.
