There is unwillingness of the Catholic Church and the Vatican to accept a married priest through its long-documented history. Many attempts have been made to change this stance, yet silence and rejection have always been the Church's only answer.

In "Behind The Rood Screen" Aergeerts seeks to establish a passionate and intellectual argument by presenting documentation in Church history as to why a married priest is essential to the existence and progression of the Church of today and tomorrow. The decline in popularity of the Catholic Church around the world is proof of what the Church is lacking for its remaining parishioners. In keeping up with modern times, a more progressive approach is needed to draw out a new generation of Catholics in local churches and around the world.

Mike Aertgeets is a former educator for Los Angeles County in California. He attended the Machelen seminary in Belgium as a young man. He has traveled throughout Africa and Latin America and has lived in the United Stated for the last 50 years. In his years as a devout and practicing Catholic, he has seen the decline in popularity of the Catholic Church around the world. He is an ardent critic of the centuries-old practices of the Vatican establishment and currently is a proponent of new ideas for the Church.
