Dr. Orpheus J. Heyward is considered one of the most dynamic and scripturally sound gospel preachers among churches of Christ today, who is able to articulate with profound simplicity the word of God, and provide practical applications for everyday challenges.
He is currently one of the most sought-after Gospel preachers nationally and internationally within churches of Christ.
Dr.. Heyward was taken in under the mentorship of Dr. W.F. Washington for three years at the Golden Heights Church of Christ. It was under the mentorship of Dr. W.F. Washington that he was instructed in the areas of argumentation and debate, biblical interpretation, and church administration. In July of 2000 at the conclusion of his summer internship, he was publicly ordained as a Minister of the Gospel of Christ at the Golden Heights Church of Christ.
In October 2003, Dr. Heyward was hired at the West End Church of Christ in Atlanta, GA as the Assistant Minister. During this time, he received his Bachelors of Science degree in Biblical Studies from Amridge University. Since then Dr. Heyward has received his Masters of Arts in Theology from Tennessee Temple University and Masters of Arts in Biblical Studies from Baptist Bible College and Seminary. He completed his doctorate degree in Theological Exegesis at Knox Theological Seminary. In February of 2007, he was ordained as the full-time Senior Minister of the West End Church of Christ. Within the first year of his ministry, the West End congregation doubled in size, in which the congregation now numbers well over 1000 members in attendance, and still growing. Dr. Heyward’s dynamic administrative style has empowered the church staff to utilize their gifts to their maximum potential.
Orpheus J. Heyward is frequently requested to speak on national and regional lectureships. He also conducts revivals all across the country.
