In this full color Special Collectors Edition coffee table book, we meet an aspirational young guitar player who set out to "get satisfaction" but eventually discovered his purpose in life. From humble beginnings in the Pacific Northwest, Dave Cutter eventually became a force in the concert sound industry even as he struggled against the internal forces attempting to thwart his success. Providing sound for over two-thousand concerts, his "All Access" pass gave him the authority to move freely throughout every concert venue. This book chronicles his personal spiritual journey to the discovery of an All Access Granted pass for his life.

At eight and a half by eleven inches and five hundred pages (with over three hundred full color images) "Asleep at the Wheel" is a big book. It had to be big because Dave Cutter's story is a big story. A compelling story. A story not necessarily unique to his experience. Because, like Dave, there are many who struggle to achieve satisfaction in life, to escape the bondage of the past. As you follow the chronicle of his journey in "Asleep at the Wheel", you will learn that your history does not determine your destiny; that dreams do come true; that even a poor boy who grew up on the streets of Portland, Oregon can rise up to one day own and operate one of the most significant concert sound companies on the West Coast.

About the author

In the 1960's & 1970's the growing need for reliable concert sound systems and capable regional rental companies to supply them led to the establishment of hundreds of new entrepreneurial companies nationwide. Some survived, but most did not. Some were more competent than others. Dave Cutter's Sundown Sound was one that thrived, due in no small part to Dave's driving ambition, consistently great sound, creative spirit and the practical approach he took as its owner and founder.

Asleep at the wheel Fantastic book. Great insight to the rock and roll industry, but more importantly to a man’s lifelong journey. Great read and highly recommended! Kent Read more
Asleep at the Wheel Such a great read for folks who were there, and also anyone who wants to see what goes on "backstage" in the music industry. David Cutter brings stories I remember and some I never heard, and tells them in a humble-raucous-Cutter way, pissed off and loving all at the same time. His personal/spiritual insights will surprise some of David's old friends - they inspired me. An insightful, detailed book that I read in 2 sittings. Love the photos!! Read more

Beautiful book, amazing life story Wow! How to describe this wonderful book? Great stories? Cool people? Sometimes unbelievable circumstances? Terrific writing? YES!! All of that and much more. As the author mentions in the overture, describing himself, "... a scoundrel of the utmost highest order who, by trying to gain all the riches of the world, damn near lost his own souls in the process." Dave Cutter illustrates an incredible life spent working in the sound business with some of the luminaries of rock and roll, and, more impressively, how he brought himself through it all with a completely transformed view of his own life and his worth to the world. Is this a self-help book? Not really, but in these pages you may very well find nuggets of experience that can teach, inform, amuse and sadden. All of which can, indeed, light a path in your life toward a new outlook. Dave has woven an amazing set of tales into a beautiful, photo filled book that can be read one act at a time, or settled down with for hours. The stories are fascinating and the life lived is amazing. Not bad for a local boy from Portland, Oregon. Read more
