In addition to rhyming, the text is written with a repeating pattern, in order to help early readers or English language learners. At the end of the story, there is an "Interview with an Ant" which provides factual information about ants and plants in a fun, innovative manner.

Rhonni is a former elementary school teacher who has always been interested in how young children learn to read. In addition to writing, she is a musician, a singer, and a songwriter. Her sense of humor flavors all of these endeavors, and she was happy to let her illustrator inject his own sense of humor into the whimsical characters of Ants in My Plants. Rhonni has lived in Texas, Nevada, Idaho, Kansas, Washington, and California, and currently resides near Amarillo, Texas.
