Description

An Island of Cherished Things features beautiful art and a charming story that comes to life through augmented reality panels. Puppets, built and designed from the illustrated characters, combine with greenscreen to perform a story within a story. Our story explores themes of repurposing discarded toys, the hazards of plastic gyres in our oceans, and protecting the fragile ecosystem on remote Easter Island. The environmental issues are woven into a magical story about toys that are washed ashore on an island that brings them to life. Through the story, the toys encounter the constant presence of waste created by humans and raise the question - what can we do about it? The tone is hopeful, and the augmented reality is playful. We think the story will inspire children to care for and thoughtfully repurpose their toys.
