Born and raised in Georgetown, South Carolina, Sharaledon Douglas Brave recalls winning his first statewide writing competition while in the fourth grade. "Silk Stocking on the Clothesline of Washington, DC" was the title of the essay that would garner him second place in the competition. It was awarded by then Lieutenant-governor of South Carolina, Nancy Stevenson, the first woman to be elected to a statewide office at the time. With a fervent love for reading, writing became a passion of his that developed into poetry by his senior year in high school. He credits his senior-year literature teacher, Ms. Lillie Jean Johnson for introducing him to the style that he still employs today. He defines his freshman project, "What Will I Tell My Children", published in 2007, as a book of exposure. It would be nearly seventeen years before he would again publish a book. Those many years were well spent, not only crafting his tools, but growing into themes that would be the backbone of his sophomore project, "An Awakening in the Sanctuary of My Soul". An artist, poet, and writer, Sharaledon's creativity is highly regarded and shared generously with others. A strong advocate of human and civil rights, many of his pieces reflect his spiritual love for himself and others everywhere. He presently resides in Mableton, Georgia.
