Description

"An Atlas of Antique Kaleidoscopic Treasures: From the Jim Vendeland Kaleidoscope Collection" is truly one of a kind, as there are no other books solely dedicated to displaying the beauty of antique 19th-century kaleidoscopes. But what is it that attracts people to these antique wonders? There are many fine artists alive today who are involved in the art of creating kaleidoscopes of great beauty, but what was captured within the kaleidoscopes of the 19th century is truly remarkable, breathtaking, and stunning. This attraction and appreciation goes far beyond what others may have experienced as a child; however, when Jim Vendeland first held a kaleidoscope in his hands, looked through it, quickly lost interest, and moved on. But, as an adult, he is able to appreciate the effort of a skilled craftsman, such as Sir David Brewster and Charles Bush, who were able to create these beautiful instruments that make you yearn for more. This book contained everything about these antique instruments, most of which were all created prior to 1900. Inside, the book is divided into sections highlighting the creations of Brewster and Bush and the creation of early toy kaleidoscopes—most of which are not in the best condition, having been ravaged by the passage of time, cheap materials, and poor care, leaving their chances of surviving intact very remote. Additionally, other sections teach you about anomalies, amalgamation, and kaleidoscope trivia with the purpose of informing you on everything there is to know about kaleidoscopes. The author hopes to spread information about these antique machines while also showing his deep passion for them.
