A Southern college town and its thriving live-music scene, where songs are neither "sacred" nor "profane" so long as they're good. A lost tape of a beloved local band's legendary performance. A record label, poised to break big, which certain people want to be involved in - by any means necessary. Two visitors - Chuck McDonough and Penny Froward - whose own music has been muted by regrets over long-ago bad decisions. A mysterious will by an unknown hand; and murder.

Born August 22, 1959 in Washington, D.C. Lived there and in various Maryland suburbs until 1975, when Dad changed careers and moved the family to Omaha, Nebraska. Attended Kent State University in Ohio, majoring in Architecture with minors in Partying and the Society for Creative Anachronisms. Moved to Durham, N.C. in spring 1982, for historic preservation courses at Durham Technical Community College. Worked as draftsman for various local architects, as well as projectionist / manager at a movie theater, a census clerk, and in a hobby shop. DJ at the Duke University radio station, WXDU, from 1986 to 2009, host of “New Frontier” (New Age / experimental music) and “Laugh Tracks” (comedy). Served on the station’s board as Public Service Announcement Director. Attended First Presbyterian Church of Durham from ’82 to ‘94, then migrated to St. John’s Metropolitan Community Church of Raleigh; member of its Board since November 2011. Member of the Carolina Bear Lodge (a gay fraternal order) since 2001, and its Treasurer since 2006. In 2003, co-founded The Blotter Magazine, a free monthly literature-&-art ‘zine, currently distributed throughout North Carolina and other locations.
