A revelation in understanding how not to put on weight, stay fit and help turn back the clock on your body's ageing process while taking control of your life through positive thinking and simple problem solving. Written in plain English by a regular person for regular people, your personal survival guide to the 21st Century.

This is a 'how to' lifestyle book like no other you have ever read. The reason is because from the outset it was written not by a well known medical professional but rather by a regular person, just like yourself. Jim Thorn, an internationally renowned award winning journalist and writer takes you on a journey of understanding just how your body works and why it doesn't always act as you would like it to. The reasons we, for instance put on weight are well documented though rarely presented in a fashion that is easy to understand and implement in everyday life. Jim discovered this in the 1980s and applied what he learnt then to change his life forever. Now in his sixties he is as fit as he was in his twenties and despite living life to its fullest is trim, fit and healthy. When you understand what food groups are your enemies and which are your allies then it is easy to begin to reduce weight and keep it off forever. Why exercise, what great things can it do for you and how you can reverse the ageing process through sensible moderate exercise and an understanding of which foods are your allies. A positive attitude and a simple problem solving mechanism will change your life. In short, a new you, fit, trim and with a positive outlook on life. This is indeed your personal survival guide for the 21st Century.

About the author

Born in 1948, Jim Thorn left school in his fifteenth year to pursue a career with Qantas Airways as a trainee ground engineer. Tyranny of distance though ultimately won out and he left to join the publishing industry where he gained real world skills in the areas of journalism, marketing, advertising and ultimately business management. Launching Australian Aviation in 1977 on a shoestring, the now monthly magazine quickly became the largest selling aviation journal in the southern hemisphere and still prospers as the region’s premier aerospace print and electronic medium. In 1996 Jim won the prestigious London based Royal Aeronautical Society’s literary award for the best air transport feature of that year. He followed that up in 2001 with another RAS award for the best defence submission and in 2005 won a lifetime achievement award for his contribution to aviation journalism in Australia and New Zealand from the National Aviation Press Club. As well as writing hundreds of major features over a career spanning four decades he also wrote his first novel, Falklands 2 in 1997, a second, Mustang Summer the following year and Alive & Well in 1999 and Off Target in 2011. When not writing Jim’s major interests are reading, walking, downhill and cross country skiing and (non lycra) cycling. Jim’s passion for aviation dates back to his childhood and since then he has had the pleasure of flying in more than 130 different aircraft types ranging from gliders to supersonic fighters. Jim has a daughter, Natalie, and shares his life with Maureen, his best friend and partner and they call Queensland’s Sunshine Coast home. Jim’s website is at
