Description
Albert’s Family Adventures is about a dog’s life with people. Albert’s first family isn’t a good fit, but when he is given away to another family, things work out well. Albert observes people’s habits and customs. His travels and comments are insightful and funny. Albert’s interactions with humans are sometimes frightening, as when the mother in his first family threatens him when he barks. Other interactions are loving and fun, especially those involving the Turner family. Getting along with neighborhood dogs and cats is sometimes confusing and sometimes friendly. Of course, the bullies at the dog park are a real challenge to deal with. Albert loves to accompany his family on their travels. He enjoys Central Park in New York City even though he has a frightening experience when he barely escapes being run over by a taxi. He finds Santa Barbara to be a wonderful place, especially the amazing whales he sees migrating offshore. This is an easy to read book with fourth grade vocabulary. It provokes thought and discussions about abandonment, honesty, bullies, travel, and kindness and consideration for others.
