Against the Odds

This work is the product of a father and daughter academicians and authors- Professor Emeritus Sir Frank Alleyne was a fully tenured Professor of Development Economics, and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of the West indies, senator and past chairman of the several national financial services boards in Barbados, and an advisor for the English-Speaking Caribbean to the International Social Security Association. On November 20th, 2012 he was awarded the Accolade of Knight of St. Andrew in recognition of his life's contribution to academia and public service to Barbados and the Commonwealth Caribbean. Dr. Shirley Alleyne is the daughter of the late Professor Sir Frank Alleyne. She is a Psychiatrist, distinguished fellow of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Fellow of the American Academy of Psychiatry, Psychiatry Residency Training Director, and a Clinical Associate Professor, Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Alleyne's academic work has focuses on extending mental health care to all populations.
