After the Wolf Bites

When Esti Mensch meets wealthy businessman Mark Gassler at her mother's engagement party, the last thing she ever expects is to fall in love. Taken in by his charms, she becomes pregnant with Mark's baby and agrees to marry him. But on the eve of their wedding, Esti discovers that Mark may be linked to his ex-girlfriend's disappearance. When she confronts him, Mark eases her worries by saying he was wrongfully accused and convinces Esti to proceed with their marriage. After their son is born, a glimpse at Mark’s monstrous side convinces Esti that the accusations against Mark are true. She decides she wants a divorce. When Mark learns of this, he convinces everyone that Esti is having a mental breakdown. Determined to prove herself as sane, Esti contacts the reporter who had investigated the ex-girlfriend's disappearance. He is currently writing a column about a conspiracy theory linking a string of suspicious suicides, a corporate attorney, and a cabal of old-money millionaires plotting to overthrow the government. The reporter believes Mark is involved in this plot. Esti has her doubts, but when Mark, sensing her betrayal, threatens to use their son as leverage against her, Esti decides to dig deeper into his past. She discovers that the conspiracy theory is real and that Mark has a collection of evidence to prove it. Her attempts to help the reporter expose him backfire when Mark learns that Esti has given his collection to the authorities. Determined to exact revenge for her betrayal, Mark has Esti imprisoned on a trumped-up charge. But a 15-year sentence is not enough to satisfy his lust for revenge. He wants the child, whom Esti has hidden in the last place Mark would ever think to look. Mark has no idea what Esti is capable of—and neither does she. She will sacrifice everything to keep her son safe, even her own happiness.
