About the author
Jean Hicks was born while her parents lived in a rural part of Jefferson County Alabama, Her parents married while her father Leonard Daniel was in the Navy. By the time Jean, the second of three daughters, was born her father was working for a private company in Birmingham and her mother, Colleen Mosley Daniel, was attending college to become an elementary teacher. Jean graduated from high school and attended the University of Montevallo. She graduated with a major in Spanish and a minor in English. While teaching Spanish and English in high school she married and returned to college at the University of Alabama where she received an advanced degree in Spanish and Secondary Education. After teaching for 35 years, she retired to care for her parents and her husband's parents. Jean began writing short stories soon as she learned to write. While in high school she wrote stories for her family and friends. She continued writing while in college, but wrote poetry instead of short stories. After retiring she returned to her love of writing short stories. Jean lives in rural north Jefferson County with her husband and cats. Her son and his family live nearby.
