Some people find their purpose. Jena has been living hers since she was twelve years old. That was the age she first put pen to paper — writing poetry and songs not as a hobby, but as a lifeline. A way of making sense of a world that didn’t always make sense. That gift followed her out of childhood and into the halls of Temple University in Philadelphia, where she studied business and economics and deepened her craft in the class of legendary poet Sonia Sanchez — one of the most powerful voices in American literature. But Jena wasn’t just a student of words. She was becoming something with them.
Before the age of twenty, she had already toured the world alongside some of the most influential musical artists of her generation. Then came the moment that would define the next chapter of her life: an impromptu performance at the studio of super producer Rodney Jerkins — and an immediate signing to his prestigious Dark Child Label in 2001, as the artist formerly known as Pain. She wrote. She performed. She moved rooms. And then, at the height of it all, she walked away.
Not because she failed — but because she heard something louder than applause. The music industry had given her a platform. But Jena wanted roots. She wanted to look into the eyes of her community and leave something behind that no record deal could measure.
In 2011, she founded Urban Angel Foundation (UAF) — a nonprofit built on the belief that love, when directed with intention, can transform a city from the inside out. Through UAF and a network of Facebook communities now reaching nearly 10,000 members, Jena built something rare: genuine human connection at scale. She hosted world-class events across the tri-state area, brought community leaders to the same table as everyday people, and coined the phrase that would become her life’s mission — “Bringing love back to the heart of the city.” She didn’t just say it. She proved it.
Today, Jena F. Williams is an author, transformation guide, and the founder of Urban Angel Foundation — a proud mother, sister, and daughter whose life’s work is devoted to helping every man, woman, and child become the best version of themselves. Her debut novel, A Struggle Within — Part One, marks the beginning of a new chapter in that mission. A story rooted in real life. Written with the same unflinching honesty that has defined everything she has ever created. Because for Jena, the platform has always been the same. Only the medium has changed.
"There is no movement without movement.
