What happens when Rudolph tells Santa that the reindeer need Christmas off?
For generations, Santa has traveled the world the same way: soaring through the night sky in his sleigh, led by Rudolph and his trusty team of reindeer. But this year, Rudolph has a very unusual request.
The reindeer are tired. They've traveled from town to town, Christmas after Christmas, and just once, they'd like the year off.
Suddenly, Santa has a big problem to solve: How will he deliver Christmas without his reindeer?
That question launches Santa into a wildly imaginative adventure filled with unexpected possibilities. Could he travel by train? Take to the skies in a hot-air balloon? Ride an elephant? Soar on the back of a dragon? Or perhaps discover an entirely new way to make his Christmas Eve journey?
Filled with humor, imagination, colorful adventure, and plenty of Christmas magic, A New Way for Santa to Travel invites young readers to dream right alongside Santa as he searches for the perfect solution with Rudolph.
At its heart, this is a story about creativity, friendship, teamwork, and being open to doing things a little differently, even when you're Santa Claus.
Perfect for children ages 3–9, this festive picture book makes a wonderful Christmas read-aloud, bedtime story, classroom addition, or holiday gift for children who love Santa, Rudolph, transportation, adventure, and imagining the impossible.
The story behind the book is part of its magic, too.
A New Way for Santa to Travel began more than three decades ago as a poem written by Grace Maher when she was in fourth grade. The original poem received an honorable mention from the Georgia State Poetry Society in 1992 and remained a special piece of Grace's childhood.
Years later, Grace shared the idea with her daughter, Lorraine Woody, who happened to be in fourth grade herself. Together, the mother-and-daughter team transformed the childhood poem into a new Christmas story. Lainey helped imagine why Rudolph might ask for a year off, dreamed up Santa's adventurous journey, and helped shape the characters and illustrations that brought the story to life.
Created across two generations, A New Way for Santa to Travel is a celebration of childhood imagination, family traditions, and the kind of Christmas magic that never has to grow old.
Because sometimes, even Santa needs to discover a new way to travel.
