At the age of seventeen, and a senior in high school, I made the decision to leave my family and my country assuming that I probably might never return or see them again. I was one of the over 200,000 people escaping from Hungary following the crushing of the popular October Revolution by the armies of the Soviet Union. Most of the people who left were young. Many of them were high school and University students, many of them professionals: doctors, engineers, teachers, and lawyers. This is the story of my journey into foreign lands, as an immigrant making his way into an unknown future seeking freedom.
