Maxine is dead. He believes it’s his fault. And that painting, why was it so important to her? Carter has to find out, despite his grief, he throws himself into the search. Carter delves into Maxine’s family history and discovers things about Maxine's life that even she never knew. Bit by bit the story of the painting is revealed, is it the work of a well know artist … is it a forgery? What he finds changes him and draws him closer to those that are part of Maxine’s story.  Carter learns that in life, what we see on the canvas is rarely the full picture.
