About the author
Melton Luttrell was born in Eastland County Texas in October 1928. He has recorded several records for Square-L-Records, which he organized and managed for several years.
Beginning in 1960, Melton and his wife, Sue, managed several Square-L Records Institutes annually at various resorts in New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. They also were staff members at yearly Square Dance resorts in Colorado and Missouri. Melton has called festivals in over forty states and abroad in England, Australia, New Zealand—and even Saudi Arabia.
A supporting and charter member of Callerlab, the International Association of Square Dance Callers, Melton served as a member of the Board of Governors from 1972 until 1997.
Melton designed, built, and managed Swingtime Center, one of the nation's finest Square Dance facilities and was instrumental in the organization of CASUL, Inc. that now owns and operates Swingtime Center. He served as their president for the first five years, and still remains on the board today.
He was inducted into the American Square Dance Hall of Fame in 1977, he was awarded Callerlab's Milestone award, the highest recognition of achievement in 1986. He was inducted into the North Texas Callers Hall of Fame in 1998, and the Texas Callers Hall of fame in 2008.
Although Square Dancing remains a principal part of his life, Melton's family of two sons, six grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren now receive an increasing amount of his time. A second book, provided the first is reasonably received, is a strong possibility.
