Tropical Symphony

a story of a unique Trinidadian-Chinese family

by RONALD (YETHING) YEE-MON

Book Image Not Available Book Image Not Available
Overview
The story encompasses the lives of my grand father, Lio Soo-Yee, his wives, Nellie Ribeiro-Albert and Annie Hawkins and myself. It comprises part of my own history with that of my parents situated in the Caribbean island of Trinidad. It is a discovery of a young man discovering his roots and a spiritual journey that began in Trinidad and has taken him across Europe, the US and China.
Description
excerpts from "Tropical Symphony" - "Nothing ever fills those empty gaps when we lose loved ones. A major lesson I learnt from my grandparents and Mam is nothing truly does. Their Christian faith nourished the belief that they would meet one day and be happy again, singing, laughing and eating. Perhaps this is heaven? I do not know nor could I imagine their unbearable pains of separation and loss. Somehow, they kept on going. ... The story is not over."
About the author
Ronald is a Trinidadian-born priest who was ordained in the Caribbean island of Trinidad in 1985. He was a Benedictine monk for 10 years before ordination. He holds a Licentiate in Sacred Theology (S.T.L) from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome (1998); attended the Pontifical University of St. Anselm in Rome where he obtained a Diploma in Spirituality and Monastic History (1987). He is also a graduate student of the University of the West-Indies, Trinidad (1982). Ron came to the US in 1988, serving in several parishes in the Diocese of Fargo, ND and in the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux, Louisiana. He has been a pastor, teacher, Retreat-Director, counselor and writer-poet. He is the author of "In the Shadows," "Letters from Rome to his mother, Angela," "50 Reflections," "50 Meditations," "In Search, 25 poems, 25 stories," and "From Heart to Heart." Ron continues to write and has been featured in various magazines at home and abroad. He blogged regularly at http://reflectwithdonronaldo.blogspot.com until March 5th 2019. The author is currently retired and describes himself as a "multi-local" from Fargo, North Dakota. I would like to honor my friend, +Rev. Daniel Miho Mrnarevic who died on September 23rd 2018. He always encouraged me in my writings. I wish to dedicate much of what I have written in his memory. He believed in me and for that, I am eternally grateful.
