James Lockler was born and raised in Dixie County, Florida. His
family lived in the area long before it was established in 1921. A few of his
family surnames include Barber, McClain, Holland, Lockler (Locklear), Land,
Lowe, Ware (Wear), Cameron, Cothron and Hunt.
While researching his family tree
in his early twenties, James fell in love with history, especially the history
of his hometown community of Dixie County. He enjoyed sharing the information
and photos that he discovered throughout his research journey with everyone.
James used that same passion to record and preserve history of the community he
loves dearly.
After receiving a lot of
encouragement and input from family and friends, James decided to write an
historical timeline book titled, ‘’To Live and Die in Dixie’’.
Unfortunately, while trying to complete and publish the book, James was
diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. While the illness
did significantly sideline him, James was determined to release the book as a
love letter to the past, present and future residents of Dixie County.
James hopes you enjoy reading the
book and are inspired to research your own family tree and expand on his
research.
