Overview
What do you do to discipline your children when everything you've tried hasn't worked? Or when everything you've tried has left you feeling awful? Time Out is NOT Your Only Option is an e-book with simple, quick, easy-to-understand-and-implement discipline strategies to make your parenting more peaceful and effective, and your discipline more likely to teach your children good ways to act.
Description
Do you feel that you are incessantly nagging, shouting, pleading, threatening, and demanding that your children do as you have asked? Do you find that after all of the nagging, shouting, pleading, threatening, and demanding that you end up doing it for them anyway? Do you live in a dictatorship – where the kids are in charge? ‘Creating boundaries’, ‘discipline’, ‘teaching kids how to behave’, ‘socialisation’… call it what you will, the purpose of this book is to help you to set limits with your kids that they can stick to - and to do it in ways that you feel good about. While most parents admit to yelling, threatening, and smacking (or manipulating their kids with bribes and goodies), it seems we would rather not do those things if we can avoid it. This e-book offers simple strategies and ideas for disciplining your children in ways that work, and that reduce or eliminate parental guilt. After reading these pages you’ll have a handful of foundational principles and strategies that you will be able to apply immediately to change the way you set limits with your children. The principles and strategies you’ll read are based on some of the very best psychological research that the world has to offer. And when you begin to practise them you’ll notice the difference in your children, and they will notice the difference in you.
About the author
Dr Justin Coulson and his wife, Kylie, are the parents of 5 children (so far). After several years of practise, Justin is an expert in teaching kids to ride their bikes, grow tadpoles into frogs, and slide down steep hills on cardboard boxes. Justin earned his PhD in psychology from the University of Wollongong. He is the author of several academic research papers and book chapters, and wrote the parenting book, “What Your Child Needs From You: Creating a Connected Family.” Justin appears regularly on The Project, The Morning Show on 7, and other tv and radio programs around Australia with his parenting advice. He is on the McAfee/Life Education Cyber Safety advisory board, and was recently invited to speak about parenting at the World Congress of Families. Away from work, Justin is a husband to a wife he cherishes. His five daughters give him endless opportunity to practice what he preaches – and cuddles on demand! He’s a cycling fanatic, a Sunday-morning church-goer, an avid reader, and a Type A guy who is trying hard to fit more in but relax a little more at the same time. Most of all, Justin is someone who helps make families happier.
