About the author

"Through the Raging Storm" is Kilgore's second novel. While it's not a sequel to "Waiting for Normal", again, it's a story about contemporary Americans caught up in unusual circumstances. The reader will find a dash of science tossed in for flavoring. Kilgore studied physics at Brown University, anticipating a research career. However, while doing graduate work, he changed his career plans and went to Stanford's Graduate School of Business. That led to twenty years working in corporate finance and traveling extensively. Later he started his own company engaged in software development projects. After a trip to Africa, he formed Iringa Hope with two friends to bring micro-finance to Tanzania. His career has provided a catalog of experiences for his writing. Kilgore has always enjoyed "creating" and has been a student of history. The liberal arts background encouraged at Brown never left him. He has been curious about how people respond to unexpected situations and how much people see the world through the lens of their time. He is fascinated by the fact that sudden developments almost always are preceded by clear warning clues. It's the seldom asked "what if" questions that intrigue him most. Now retired, he has the time to transform ideas and speculations into stories. He likes novels that take readers to different parts of the country and reveal how everyday people cope with unexpected challenges. The goal is to both entertain and leave the reader with a few questions about our future. He currently resides with his wife in Florida.

Benjamin 		A thrilling story full of suspense, adventure, and love, Through The Raging Storm The small tourist town of Vanderpool had always been peaceful and serene until the night an alarming storm hit it. Two witnesses claimed they saw strange balls of lights over the hills while the storm raged. Could it have been a plane crash, meteors, or even aliens arriving? No one could explain. Although he didn’t believe in UFOs, Joe Garner took it upon himself to unravel the mystery behind the strange lights. As he gathered strange objects and conducted investigations with the help of two others, he never thought it would eventually result in an unprecedented and shocking outcome that would get NASA involved. Would it herald an unprecedented situation or just an illusion? Only time will tell. In the midst of all that was happening around him, Joe couldn’t help falling in love with the woman that mattered most to him. He routinely shared some nice recreational moments with Martha until they realized they meant much more to each other. One stormy night, Joe Garner and his group of friends see something strange fall out of the sky. Curiosity gets the better of them, so they venture out to find something that may or may not be from another world. Before long, Joe and his friends realize some shady characters have also come to town, looking for the same object. With good intentions, the guys do their best to keep the object hidden, but trouble is around every corner. Soon, Joe finds that he and his buddies are in way over their heads. As the simple lives of these ordinary people become overly complicated, many of them are forced to take drastic measures. Through the Raging Storm is more about the people than their extraordinary find. This book excels in exploring the lives of a full cast of colorful characters as they grapple with what has happened in their once-sleepy village. Author Ben Kilgore has a knack for making each character unique and interesting. Much of the fun here comes from watching these simple townsfolk as they clash with big-city thugs and sophisticated technology. However, there is a real element of science fiction that is both interesting and original. Readers who enjoy an exploration of the inner workings of a small town, and how they react when something really bizarre happens, will get a kick out of Through the Raging Storm.
