Three Dreams of the World's Creation

Consists of three stories of the world's creation written in free verse. The first story takes place at the beginning of time when man and woman were brought forth by an ancient and selfish god. The second story takes place about 5 centuries ago among the Taino Indians(of the Caribbean), and speaks of the birth and character of their legendary chief, guarionex, and their fate at first contact with Europeans. The third story takes place in the present time with two main characters: guarionex returns as a spirit to guide Maria, a Latina beauty of the Upper West Side, who strives to resist the seduction of "two angels". One offers the seduction of power and the other of love. There is a third unexpected angel whose offer makes her have to choose between him and guarionex. This book is a free verse novella which speaks of love, womanhood, and freedom.

This book of poetry is more like a novella or three closely related short stories. The first part is entitled: "The First Dream: a humble scribe's tale of an ancient god". The humble scribe, a loquacious and irreverent type tells the story and also makes illuminating observations. Man and Woman are called forth, at the beginning of time, by an ancient god who has his own selfish needs to be worshipped, lusts after woman and eventually schemes to kill man in a fit of sexual jealousy. This story has many love poems in praise of woman. The second part is: "The Second Dream: guarionex song of destiny." The narrator is a fellow clan member of guarionex, and Taino indian chief, who lived at the time when Columbus first made landfall in the Caribbean. The story tells of guarionex' birth, brought to shore by a leviathan, his blossoming into maturity and chiefdom, his creating a universe of meaning for the tribe and the fateful meeting with the first Europeans. There are poems of love, time, and destiny. The third dream is: "Maria dreams of guarionex". Maria, a Latina beauty of today from the Upper West Side by Central Park, is guided by the spirit of guarionex to the place of his ancient home. On the way, she meets 3 angels that try to sway her from his side by offering power, love, and destiny. There are many poems of love, power, destiny

juanantonio was born in a small town on the northwest Atlantic Ocean coast of a caribbean island. This area was inhabited by the Taino people when Columbus first arrived and landed nearby. Their chief was guarionex. Three Dreams of the World's Creation is enterely fictional. But the impact that this small piece of earth and sea, characterized by soaring cliffs, fossil shells, passing calving behemoths and many beautiful coves, one after the other carved out by aeons of sea and storm, has had on the author is very significant. He has walked on this solitary ocean front many times, but his path always impeded after a few miles, by a giant breech of the cliffs which encroach on the shore. Here the sea has broken through and has carved a giant dark cave which echoes with the ocean's roar. This he always regarded, even as a child, a plae of death, a mysterious opening to the netherworld, where the ancient gods of the island still reside. To his surprise, one day he noted that the ocean wa depositing sand at the bottom of this cave and at the beginning of a ten million year project to create another beautiful tropical moon-shaped cove. Instead of death, this was the continuing act of creation. This opened his eyes because on the same walk, a few years later, he noticed a large boulder , which at first sight seemed to be a man-made sculpture of the Blessed Mother - actually it was forged by the sea. But from these experiences, over many years, arose the Three Dreams.
