Author Felton, aka Timothy Felton, is a St. Louis native utilizes his personal life experiences and strengths to captivate his readers' and audiences from state to state. He speaks with passion to educate, motivate and encourage youth and student-athletes through challenges. Growing up as an African American Black male during the 1980's and being a student-athlete during the drug dealer era made difficult to focus on sports. In July 2005, Felton founded a nonprofit organization called the Youth Exposure Sports Foundation, Inc. The organization provides group mentoring for student-athletes. The mission of the organization is to educate, mentor and help student-athletes' maintain a balance between academics, athletics and life after sports. Author Felton seeks to inspire student-athletes through his wisdom, work and life style. He is a retired Juvenile Officer, high school football and track coach. He currently holds a bachelor degree in Criminal Justice, masters in Human services and is currently pursuing his doctoral degree in Higher Education Leadership. His first book was published June 3, 2016. In The Undrafted, Timothy highlights some of the major characteristics that shaped his life: Respect (when you show you have respect for yourself first); Keeping a cool temper (you should not cause your team to be penalized because you cannot control your anger; coaches see players with bad tempers as long-term problems); Accountability (being on time and being there for your teammates is extremely important to coaches; being accountable also shows you are capable of managing your own life); Being coachable (you cannot think you know everything; you must listen to your coaches); Being teachable (when lessons are taught, there is always a teacher and a student; we must remain teachable at all times because we learn constantly); and Selflessness (we should be concerned with others more than ourselves in team sports). In the book, Timothy states, "There is a book inside of everyone." In sharing his personal story, Timothy hopes to inspire others to discover and to appreciate their own personal stories. He also intends to shift student-athletes' focus from excelling in college and professional level sports to excelling in education.
