About the author
T. Newyear has lived a double life, as a music professional and as a scholar and writer obsessed with culture and history. Her love of music stems from her days as a teenage record store employee. She sang in bands that played everything from Balkan pop to ska-inflected soul and recorded several albums of original and traditional songs. She eventually became a publicist, writer, and idea generator for musicians, music businesses, and tech startups. As a scholar, T. spent many years living, working, and sitting stumped in archives around Russia. Her career there included jobs in journalism. Holding a PhD in an obscure field, she wrote her dissertation on the history of grassroots theater among the indigenous people of Siberia, a subject that inspired her fiction debut, The Tomb and the Stone. She also writes fantasy novels. Inspired by classic high fantasy and fantastic realism, by global wandering and a deep-seated love for her native Midwest, T. weaves together elements from her own experience and scholarship to craft nuanced, complex tales that turn genres gently inside out.
