Overview
Humorous stories on a Daddy's experiences raising children in an upscale community on Long Island. Personal and funny experiences and unique approaches to actually doing something with daughters when things don't actually go as planned.
Description
This book is a compendium of humorous and touching short stories by a man suddenly assigned the new role as a "Daddy" by his wife when their first child, a little girl, was born. It presents his unique observations and attempts to adapt to the Daddy status through the years as a second baby girl, and then a third baby girl filled their household in an upscale Long Island community. It is composed of true stories from the perspective of a Daddy who has confidence that his simple plans for activities with his daughters will be happy and memorable. Things don't always go as expected, and those events are presented as simple lessons to remember.
About the author
Robert (Rob) M. Alvey is a native New Yorker, and has had a lenghty career as an environmental geologist with the US Environmental Protection Agency's Superfund Division, receiving numerous awards and honors for his innovative and cost saving measures to help clean up and restore contaminated industrial sites. He was also a beloved geology professor at York (CUNY) College in Jamaica, Queens. He has written numerous technical articles and is also well known for his humor writing and acting skills. Physically and mentally, he resembles Mark Twain and has performed at the Friar's Club in Manhattan as well as on Broadway, on steamboats on the Mississippi and Lake Tahoe, and appeared as Twain in the 2020 audio production of Twain and Tesla - Annihilating the Competition. Even Hal Holbrook remarked that Rob looks more like Twain than he did himself. Rob's first book, Catching Twainitis Syndrome, was published in 2019. Rob has been married for nearly 50 years to his original high school sweetheart, and helped her raise their 3 daughters. The girls and his 4 nephews are the inspiration for his short stories on his experiences as a Daddy and being in the world of Daddyhood. Rob calculates that he has over 100 years of Daddyhood experience, but is still learning. Now retired from the USEPA and enjoying the beach in Fort Lauderdale, Rob is currently working on his third book on his experiences slowly becoming a Floridiot.
