Overview
Genealogy of the McKenzies of Early Maryland beginning with John MacKinzie (b. 1687).
Description
The earliest recorded ancestor of the McKenzies of Early Maryland was John MacKinzie (actual spelling in his will dated 1758) (b. 1687), who was one of three McKenzies who populated the shores of the newly formed Maryland colony in the 1600's. Thousands of McKenzies in the United States and Canada trace their lineage to him. This book discusses in detail the first three generations of the McKenzies of Early Maryland, the location of the original McKenzie property in Howard County, Maryland, and their migration from that area and ultimately throughout the United States and Canada. Included in the book is a detailed discussion of whether John MacKinzie was related to the other two individuals who resided in Maryland at the same time and who had a similar last name. He was not. Additional chapters outline the military service of the McKenzies throughout every war in our country's history, as well as the current status of DNA analysis of the origins of the family. The book should be read in conjunction with the author's website http://mckenziesofearlymaryland.com, which as of the date of publication of this book contains over 59,000 names and countless thousands of deeds, photos, maps, death certificates and obituaries.
About the author
About the author: Michael A. McKenzie is a retired lawyer/litigator who lives in Roswell, Georgia with his wife, Darla. They are the parents of three children, Katherine, Patrick and Colin. Their only grandchild (currently) is Kaitlynn McKenzie Johnson, the apple of their eyes. Genealogy first captured the author's attention when he watched the movie "Roots" in the late 1970's. The first relative interview he conducted was of his paternal grandmother. She pulled a classic Granny Clampett, (of Beverly Hillbillies' fame) pose, putting her chin on her chest and uttering, "I ain't telling you nothing. You're just going to try to dig up dirt!" Say what!! It simply was not what the author was expecting his sweet, elderly grandmother would say. After the initial shock wore off, the search was on. This book and the website resulted.
