Overview
"The Glory Hill Diaries" is a collection of stories by Maggie Barnes, award-winning columnist for Mountain Home Magazine. Maggie chronicles the journey her family made in moving to the Southern Tier and working through all the discoveries about rural life. The stories share the common themes of family, work, home improvement and learning about a new community. There is a lot of humor, and a couple of tears, in tracking the adventures of an "empty nest" husband and wife and the home that brings them a dream they never knew they had.
Description
"Sometimes the best dreams are the ones you didn't know you had." Such is the discovery of a husband and wife upon their relocation to the Southern Tier of New York. Maggie Barnes find a lot of humor in her new town, and writes about everything from the intrusion of wildlife to trying to figure out three-way intersections. Attempts at baking, hauling home massive Christmas trees, building a deck; all of it is fodder for her pen. Readers will recognize situations very much like their own experiences and laugh along with the learning curve that comes with starting over. "Glory Hill" is an area of Waverly, New York, known for it's spectacular views and sunrises. Maggie carries that feeling into her writing, finding something funny in the ordinary business of living. Reading Maggie's writing is like listening to a good friend tell you a story. A six-time award winner, Maggie has compiled her work into a cheerful collection that is guaranteed to bring a smile. And maybe a tear or two, as life also brings loss to the Glory Hill family. Celebrate all the joys to be found in everyday life and spend a little time on Glory Hill. There is a smile in every story!
