The Church Must Die

Overview
For My people have committed two evils: They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, And hewn themselves cisterns—broken cisterns that can hold no water. Jeremiah 2:13 The modern church, to its very core, is wrong. It is not what it was supposed to be. Today church is a “thing”…it’s an organization, a building, an institution…something never intended by Christ. In the early church the power of the Holy Spirit operated in abundance and the world was changed. Over the 2000 years since, we have traded the glory of God for an institution, traded His power for our own, and traded His church for a sad counterfeit. It’s time to wake up and see ourselves for what we’ve become. This is not a revolution, not even a revival. This is a breaking. This is death to all we have become, that we might return to what is real.

About the author
Dave Kirby has spent most of his life immersed in the church. It’s where he grew up, where he worked, where he got his identity. For most of those years, he played the game, kept up the front, and obeyed the rules, even though his heart was far from God. Then, in the midst of a personal crisis, he did something radical. He started reading his Bible and praying…a lot. What he found was a disturbing dissonance between the modern brand of Christianity with which he was so familiar, and the Biblical one. This work is a result of his discovery. It is not intended to be the end of the conversation, but the beginning. Mr. Kirby lives in Nashville, TN with his family, but his heart is with believers everywhere whose lives are truly broken before God.
