About the author
Arthur Piccolo has a lifetime of community based public service most recently in Lower Manhattan centered at Bowling Green where New York City was founded. He has a wealth of knowledge of early New York City history which is reflected in his writings and projects. He is the author of 4 recent books on a varierty of subjects. Arthur Piccolo first arrived at Bowling Green when he worked at One Whitehall Street in the early 1980s. As so many others did in the warm months he came to enjoy Bowling Green Park at lunchtime. Unlike many others he learned the unique and long history of Bowling Green and as a result his serious interest in it and the surrounding Lower Manhattan. This led to the first Christmas Tree ever at Bowling Green in December 1986, followed by the creation of the Bowling Green Association in 1988, and his ever deeper involvement in the area and a year round annual series of events every year since as well as the improvement of the area including installation of the first permanent lighting in Bowling Green Park. A major development took place in December 1989 when the author convinced the late Italian American sculptor Arturo DiModica to bring his larger than life 3 ½ ton bronze "Charging Bull" to Bowling Green then make this world famous work a permanent gift to always remain at and be publicly displayed at the northern tip of Bowling Green for the enjoyment of millions. Bowling Green where New York City was founded as New Amsterdam remains the heart and soul of New York City at the center of the city's most impressive plaza, and the work of the Bowling Green Association continues under the leadership of Arthur Piccolo and this book being one new result. Today world famous "Charging Bull" is the best known and most visited work of sculpture in the world. This book and this story make "Charging Bull" come alive as never before. A unique Christmas story for children of all ages.
