About the author
Hugh A. Lichter is the author of Subprimal, a fictional account of the events leading to the largest financial meltdown in nearly a century. Mr. Lichter has spent a decade in mortgage lending, after a successful career in health care investments and management. During the run-up of the housing and credit bubble, Mr. Lichter worked in local management for Countrywide Home Loans, a division of Countrywide Financial. Mr. Lichter primarily managed relationships with builders and large real estate firms, and was responsible for creating and operating a Countrywide-managed Joint Venture mortgage company with a regional builder in Florida. As part of Countrywide Home Loan’s local builder team, Mr. Lichter participated in a number of corporate meetings determining Countrywide’s national builder lending policies. In addition, Mr. Lichter was one of the few Countrywide managers who attended press conferences and builder events with the company’s Chairman and CEO, Angelo Mozillo. Prior to entering the mortgage lending field, Mr. Lichter worked for several managed care companies. Besides serving in positions ranging from National Director for Business Development to CEO of HMO health plans, Mr. Lichter was active in raising capital from Wall Street and from venture capital firms. Mr. Lichter holds a B.A. in Liberal Arts from the University of Pittsburgh, and a M.A. in Political Economics from Goddard College, Plainfield, VT. Mr. Lichter has served on the Board of Directors of several local community service organizations, as First Vice President of the Tampa Bay Builders Association (TBBA) and as member of the Board of Directors of the Florida Home Builders Association (FHBA). TBBA is the 10th largest local building association in the U.S. and FHBA is the 3rd largest state building association. Mr. Lichter has also chaired FHBA’s Sales and Marketing Council, and has served on a number of important FHBA committees over the years. Mr. Lichter is a licensed REALTOR® and Mortgage Loan Originator, and resides in the Tampa, FL area.
