Description
Snake Hunter Snake Talk is Okefenokee Joe's second published book and is overflowing with important information about snakes, their habitats, and safety when encountering them. A must read, for snake hunters, and anyone who likes the outdoor life, wherever they live in the world. It is a 210 page soft paperback manual and it contains 58 beautiful color photographs of snakes and snake hunters in action and most importantly it provides so much information for all young and novice reptile lovers! Okefenokee Joe lived in the Great Okefenokee Swamp in deep Southeastern Georgia from May 1973 until June of 1982. During that time his closest neighbors were the bear, the deer, the alligators, the snakes, the song birds, the birds of prey, and all the teeming and beautiful wildlife that lived there. The swamp became his text book, and experience teacher. For over four decades in hundreds of schools all over the Southeast, he delivered his "Earth Day Every Day" message. He wrote, sang and recorded songs praising all of God's Creation. And always brought along a live selection of native venomous and non-venomous snakes. They were not his pets. They were simply messengers, and truly excellent representatives of the natural world around us. They acted as his dynamic visual aids, and in many instances, during his talks, they themselves taught the lessons. They were the ones that really helped intrigued and fascinated young audiences to become "Swampwise"! He realized that in most instances the greater part of his listeners were young, and that much of what they knew about wild animals had come from the TV tube or the movie screen; A world of make believe! Where snakes and other animals can be made to look as if they had done anything just to help sell the show. So he always made sure that his earthly, no shouldered ambassadors of good will animals would generously and emphatically demonstrate that everything that he was saying about them was true. His every audience, young and old alike would be given the golden opportunity to see with their own two eyes the actual factual attitude and behavior of snakes, both venomous and non-venomous, towards a human being! Today, after four decades of traveling throughout Georgia, Florida and South Carolina performing my Earth Day Every Day Presentation, in countless colleges, public and private schools, libraries, museums, outdoor sportsman shows, American Indian pow wows, and local or statewide special events, Okefenokee Joe has retired. Okefenokee Joe is still devoted to sharing the wealth of experience and knowledge that he gained from the wild plants and animals themselves, while living alone, so close to God and to the earth in the great Okefenokee Swamp.
