Overview
Glimpse into life through the eyes of a brown girl. Life is a series of experiences made up of multiple moments. Is this seen differently depending on how the world sees you? The observations we make throughout each day sometimes take up a moment of our time, but yet they make such a lasting impression within us. What really occurred in one second of time? And what did the glance of a stranger truly mean? Thoughts of love or calm surroundings can have just as much impact as those of injustice. We absorb them in the same manner, but we each have a lens that provides a different focus. The world has always looked upon women with shades of brown with a preconceived definition without allowing her to define herself. However, what is in the mind can only be interpreted by each individual. These poems are an introspective view on life defined by a woman of color. The words immerse you in the thought of the moment. Mercedes Weathers is an African American poet from Philadelphia, PA whose involvement in the arts started at an early age in her education and continued throughout her career. She is s lifelong writer, who created some of her first poems after learning to write. Her poetry has been built upon the canvas of her life, reflects her tendency toward observation and has been shared in various venues. This collection is centered around the life experiences of women of brown hues as a tribute to all of their unsaid thoughts, feelings and interpretations.
