I want to start by saying that I appreciate you buying this book and taking the time to read it. I am so happy and blessed to have gone through these experiences as I don’t know another hair stylist who had it like I did, or I should say as I do, since I’m still doing hair!
Since I’ve been a hair stylist in Hollywood, I have been compared to Warren Beatty’s character, George, from the movie Shampoo. I’m not trying to brag, but the movie Shampoo has nothing on my career. Warren Beatty’s character didn’t have the clients that I have and didn’t even come close to the experiences I went through!
This book is about billionaires, moguls, celebrities, rock stars, crazy rich women, sex, money and, of course, hair! It’s also a love story. A love story between two people from completely different backgrounds, growing closer to each other over a 10-year period.
It’s Romeo & Juliet without the suicides. It’s Scarface without the cocaine! It’s hair that brings these two people together in search for true love because we all know you can’t find love through money!
That said, I am going to save you from having to listen to me go on about my childhood or anything like that because at the end of the day, my life didn’t start until I began doing hair.
When I first became a hair stylist, I had no idea that I would go through the experiences that were coming to me. It was like the universe was confirming that I was on the right path in my career as a Hollywood hair stylist.
The reason I wrote this book is because when you do hair, being able to make great conversation is 90 percent of your job description. Hair stylists who are silent usually have no business. As I was experiencing these situations, my clients, to whom I would tell these stories, would constantly tell me: “Brandon, you have to write these things down! You could write a book for sure!”
Now, I’m sure a lot of people in my shoes are told that all the time. However, because I am a straight male in a predominantly gay- and female-heavy industry, this made my experiences that much more interesting. I have been and always will be a ‘fish out of water’ in this business.
As I contemplated writing a book, I had personally never really written anything. I am a damn good storyteller but most of my storytelling happens while I’m behind the chair cutting and coloring someone’s hair, hopped up on shit tons of coffee!
I’m naturally an animated person, which always makes any story more exciting! Writing an actual book is really an unknown medium for me. Would I be able to convey my stories on paper the same way I convey them in person?
Fortunately, it’s in my personality to be fearless and take risks, so I figured, fuck it! What have I got to lose? As an artist, I’ve been able to translate my artistic qualities into other fields including photography, drawing, guitar playing and, obviously, cutting hair. Writing is just another art form.
The people that I talk about in this book are so famous and powerful and the situations I got to see them in were fucking priceless! From a dying rock star’s wife trying to molest me every chance she got, to being flown to a private island just to do hair, to crazy rich women who are married to old men throwing temper tantrums left and right, I heard and saw it all!
These stories had to be told! However, the biggest and most important reason I wrote this book is because of love. I fell in love with someone during all this time as a celebrity hair stylist. The person I fell in love with comes from a completely different world than I do. I basically met my dream woman, became her hair stylist, and grew to love her more and more with each passing year.
I have seen this person in a lot of different, emotional situations. I even lived under her roof for a short period of time when I was having difficulties in my own life. This person has been there for me more than once and that ultimately made me love her even more.
I never thought that I would fall in love with a famous socialite from New York City but love has no rules! This woman makes me want to be the ‘better me!’ That’s how I know my feelings for her are true.
In the beginning, she seemed so unattainable because of her immense financial situation, which makes normal, rich people look homeless. For me, I never cared about her money or anyone else’s money for that matter, and everyone who really knows me knows this to be true, including her. What I fell in love with was her heart. Her heart has driven me more in my life than anyone could ever compare to.
I really owe this book to her because, if I could, I would write songs about this woman. I would make a movie about this woman. She knows I would do anything for her. That was enough to drive me to do something I had never done before…write a book.
I hope you enjoy what you are about to read because everything in this book is one-hundred percent true. I myself am unable to lie. I’ve always worn my heart on my sleeve and I always shoot from the hip, even if it’s not politically correct.
This book really writes itself and everyone who really knows me also knows this to be true.
