About the author
Reginald Bauer, a native of Pomona, CA, grew up loving the ocean. Surfing, Eagle Scout projects, science, creative writing and expressionistic art led him to Harvard Schools of Medicine and Dental Medicine with a specialty in maxillofacial surgery. He taught at UCLA Harbor General Hospital until 1980, and became board-certified in emergency medicine. Dr. Bauer advanced to become Chief of Emergency Services at Kaiser Hospital in Harbor City.
The sea still had a special calling for Dr. Bauer. From his ocean-view home on the Pacific Coast, he continued to paint seascapes and developed the nautical fantasy that later became “Seafarer.” In 2004 he suffered a stroke and had to retire from medicine. Not willing to let the catastrophe overcome him, Reg rekindled his passion for writing and illustrating adventure stories that lift up time-venerated maritime themes, seen through the honor and wisdom of the heroic character.
Dr. Bauer lives with his wife Alwen in Palos Verdes, CA. They have two grown sons.
