About the author

Mike Doan is a retired journalist who was a writer and editor for The Associated Press, U.S. News & World Report and the Kiplinger Letters in Las Vegas, Washington, San Francisco, Portland and other cities over a 46-year career. Originally from El Cerrito, CA., he graduated from UC Berkeley in 1963. He is also a singer and jazz pianist, who lives in South Boston, VA, where he and his wife, Pickett Craddock, operate Oak Grove Bed & Breakfast.
