Kyle McKinley is a painter with an international reputation. He spends his summers at his cabin and studio on a northern New Brunswick salmon river and his winters in deep south Texas. Marcel Latour is the prison escapee who has vowed to find and kill McKinley, who was responsible for his capture following his brutal murder of a young Aboriginal woman, Mary Paul. The action takes place over a number of days as Latour makes his way from Ontario to New Brunswick and plays out against the backdrop of a violent anti-fracking protest at a remote northern fracking camp.
