Overview
The character Mamie, will take you on a wild ride as she makes endless attempts to escape the horrors and abuse in her life. Some passages will make you cry while others may actually cause you to laugh hysterically, especially at the absurdities of her youthful plans for escape.
Description
BRIEF SYNOPSIS The story begins in the early 1950's suburbs of Houston, Texas. Mamie is a young child of four who was unwanted, afraid, abused and with nowhere to turn, learned that she had to stand alone. Her only friends were her older brother, an abused child himself, and her nanny, who begged their mother to stop beating them. The father, though he loved his children, remained passive to the end. A victim himself, the only protection he offered was a warning to stay out of their mother's reach. This story shares Mamie's heroic battle to keep her dreams alive and hold on to her spirit. How she finds her way out of fifty-four years of abuse is yours to discover in her fascinating memoirs. Mamie reminds you throughout every step of her journey that she is a survivor. Indeed, it was her consummate ability to hope, plan and dream that kept her going from four to fifty-four when the abuse finally ended. The saying that, ‘you can beat the tar out of the girl but you will never break her spirit without her permission’ explains her secret to survival. But did her story end there? What other surprises does Mamie have in store for you? Does her journey end with another dream! Mamie has a special love of animals so she has elected to support with a donation from the sales of her book to two charities and invites you to help her. Dreamcatchers for Abused Children and Kitsap Rescue Humane Society for abused animals. She and her book carry the same message-NEVER GIVE UP!
About the author
Rosemary "Mamie" Adkins is an author, speaker and survivor of her own destiny. Rosemary "Mamie" Adkins was born and spent most of her childhood in Houston, Texas. When she left Texas with her family, they moved to Las Vegas where she graduated from Bishop Gorman High School in 1965. After graduation her family moved to Redding, California where they resided for about six months when she fled the state and family home, once she had become legal age (18) to do so. From there Rosemary seemed to be restless and moved around until she found a happy place to be in Eugene, Oregon. Her childhood was not the happiest and she had to deal with challenges of extreme abuse that impacted her life for years to come. She found peace walking the ocean's beaches or swimming in the Gulf. "Whenever I was full of self doubt, afraid and lonely, the beach brought to me to a place with an inner peace." Happy memories surround the water for Rosemary and where she was able to recall some of the memories she is able to share in this special book. Not only could she enjoy the waters edge but also found the strength to fight the monsters within. A special place where she knew again and again she would find that peace. Although Rosemary had become independent, she still did not manage to escape abuse. Only the first time from a bad marriage. Haunted from the cycles of life she ran from her problems hoping to find someone that would love her and eventually found and married her husband and together they raised her daughter and he became her daughters legal father making them a happy connected family that all love each other. Life was finally good for Rosemary (Mamie) except for the raging challenges she has fought from the complications of Diabetes. These complications have taken their toll and left her in constant fear of what has and may occur with her health. Thoughts of how long she would be able to fight cruelty in her life once more but one she cannot entirely control on her own. This is my story-Welcome to my world.
