About the author
Hailing from the inner city of Richmond, Virginia Olden B. "Jay" Johnson joined the United States Air Force at 20 years old. He soon found himself overseas in the middle of the Vietnam War. While persevering through these adverse conditions he discovered his passion for air traffic control. Upon returning to the States, he began turning his passion into a career. Over the course of his 31-year career he had numerous noteworthy accomplishments as a certified controller, training instructor, supervisor, manager, and air traffic evaluator. His passion and ability also earned him a position at FAA headquarters focused on national fight safety programs. Despite various obstacles in his journey, nothing stopped him from achieving his goals. He lives his life with determination in his eyes, a smile on his face, and maybe a joke or two. As Jay often says, "You can't control what happens to you in life, but you can control how you respond to it."
