Overview

"My Disappearing Act: Into the Abyss of Dementia" is written through the eyes of Patsy Barnes, a woman with Alzheimer's disease. It chronicles her diagnosis, abandonment by family members, and subsequent placement in a memory care facility. Despite her sad situation, Patsy leans on her close friendships and faith in God to keep her from giving up.

Description

Todie West has written "My Disappearing Act: Into the Abyss of Dementia" in first person, present tense, which was necessary to chronicle the thoughts and experiences of her main character, Patsy Barnes, who has Alzheimer's disease and must navigate the challenging changes going on in her body and mind. Todie West was prompted to bring to life some of the colorful characters she met over the years in her involvement with rest home visitation ministries. Her hope is to inspire those whose loved ones have the disease to not abandon them, but to visit often, realizing that no one really knows what goes on inside the mind of an Alzheimer's patient. Patsy's story is sad but, unfortunately, true for many Alzheimer's patients. But, Reader, take heart. There is a twist to Patsy's story and a happy ending of sorts.
