Description
MCI Casualty Management and Triage (CM &T) training focuses on the tasks and tools needed by hospital based providers and volunteers who may be asked to assist during a Code Orange or Multi-Casualty Incident. It outlines the triage decision making processes, emphasizing its dynamic nature, and discusses the physical setup of the triage and various treatment areas needed in the facility. It provides practical suggestions on the roles and responsibilities of MCI triage and trauma team personnel, based on the assessment process used in the ITLS (International Trauma Life Support) training course. It uses Incident Command System (ICS) terminology to designate and organize Task Forces for trauma and triage team functions and Strike Teams of support personnel such as specialists or diagnostic imaging. It provides equipment and organizational suggestions to enhance the function of triage and treatment areas and speaks to communication and reporting issues. The course itself will give personnel a chance to practice their skills using demonstrations and a hands-on format. Staff will have the opportunity to see an idealized set up for their facility and practice triaging and processing patients through their initial management.
