Letters from Federal Prison

This book details the spiritual writings and mediations of former District Attorney, Richard Johnson, written while he was serving a federal prison sentence of a year and a day. It talks about the people he met there and the situations he encountered. Hopefully, it can be a beacon of hope for others who find themselves in trying circumstances.

After losing his re-election bid, former Louisiana District Attorney Richard Johnson was convicted of tax evasion and sentenced to a year and a day in federal prison. While incarcerated, he compiled a diary of daily meditations that he now hopes will serve to glorify god and benefit those who find themselves in similar situations. Detailing people he met, situations he experienced, and lessons he learned, Letters From Federal Prison: A District Attorney's Quest for Redemption is a humbling but uplifting look at how even the worst of circumstances can help a person find the good in life.

A resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Richard Z. Johnson is the former District Attorney of the 42nd Judicial District in Louisiana. He was the first African-American district attorney elected in DeSoto Parish and only the third African-American district attorney elected in Louisiana. He is an honors graduate of the Southern Law Center located in Baton Rouge. He retired after 28 years of service as an assistant district and district attorney. He is married to the former Fredrena Freeman for the past 37 years and is the father of two daughters, Jessica and Mighan. Jessica is an attorney and teaches at the Southern Law Center.
