Michael Autry is an alumnus of Thomas More University and a graduate of the Bureau of Training, Kentucky Department of Justice, at Eastern Kentucky University. He was also a member of the last flag detail, Orleans, France, in 1967. (Photo on book cover shows Autry carrying the American flag) Growing up in Dayton, Kentucky, a small Ohio River town east of Cincinnati, Ohio, he experienced being "Left Behind" in school and society. Lack of parental care and teacher awareness of his plight, frequent moves, and Ohio River flooding contributed to Autry being held back three times in grade school due to poor attendance and grades. At age 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, which changed his life forever. After basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky, expecting an assignment to Viet Nam, Autry was assigned to France. This set in motion the making of the man we know today as Michael Autry. After his discharge, Autry spent time as a Newport, Kentucky police officer and eventually as a lead supervisor at General Electric Aircraft Engines in Evendale, Ohio.
