About the author
It was a sabbatical spent touring the game parks of Southern Africa that convinced Ann to give up the security of a successful but office-bound job as a magazine editor in London, and take on the challenge of freelance photojournalism, documenting the natural history and conservation of Africa's flora and fauna. It's a decision that has seen her spending up to six months of each year in the bush, up close and personal with Africa's most charismatic big game. Her most unusual experience to date was being scent-marked by a huge male leopard! Ann's work has been widely published in titles including National Geographic, BBC Wildlife, Sunday Times Travel, and many more. She also lectures in wildlife photojournalism, has co-authored three books and runs wildlife photography workshops with husband Steve. She is currently working on a three year photojournalism project to raise awareness of the conservation issues affecting Africa's rhinos, which are facing a disastrous upsurge in poaching. The project has taken her from the savanna grasslands of the Masai Mara to the parched thirstland of the Namib desert, tracking rhinos, patrolling with anti-poaching units, and witnessing at first hand the threats to not only rhinos, but the conservationists who care for them. At home and in the bush Ann is a keen foodie, with an eclectic taste in cooking: Asian and Spanish are particular favourites. She's also a fanatical follower of men's tennis, where again Spanish is a particular favourite in the form of Rafael Nadal.
