One of the hardest things about foster care is teaching our biological/adoptive children that are already living in our home the why behind these special children sharing our home. 

Instant brother teaches the why and the how. How can we as parents approach the subject in a way that our little ones can comprehend? 

Children do not need all the details, but they still want to be apart of the conversation and process.

Reunification is a bitter sweet moment. Instant Brother shows how our children can be involved and love their foster sibling until they are able to reunite. 

Instant Brother tells a story about a little bear Jacob, who meets his new Foster Sister Jade, Jacob is confused about his new sister. She doesn't look like him, and who was that lady at the door? He asks his mama lots of questions about Foster Care. In this story we follow what could be just a few weeks or few months and when Jade is ready to go home, Jacob has a better understanding about Foster care, his role as a big brother, and why it can a good thing for his Foster siblings to go home to their mama and daddy. 

My name is Cierra and I grew up in Washington State. Foster care has always been a part of my life. My mom, Colleen, adopted me when I was three and she continued to foster children until she became too ill. She passed away when I was 13, but in the short time I had to spend with my mom, she ignited a fire in me and a passion for making this world a better place for children in foster care. A year after she passed, I stayed with a family that my mom knew and trusted. Her hope was to make sure my sister and I were protected, loved and cared for. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Something my mom use to always say was, "There are two types of people in this world: Ones who teach you how to be and ones who teach you how not to be. "Well, My mama taught me how to be, and my last home taught me how not to be.

My life long goal is to continue sharing the love and care that my mom had for all of these beautiful children who need loving homes until they are ready to go home. Currently, I live in SoCal with my son Carter. He definitely keeps me on my toes. He is full of love and joy; Carter is the light of my life and watching him with his foster siblings now brings me so much joy. I wrote this book for him and I wrote this book in honor of my mama who I feel is still with me every day.
