The title page to each story contains the book and chapter so you can check for yourself that these are really the stories. They are likely to differ a bit from what you learned as a child as the real stories would've been too horrifying to teach children, and not very good for recruiting members or for holiday songs. The old testament is the basis for all three of the Abrahamic traditions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) and though this book is intended to be funny, it is also intended to contribute to the discussion of the role of religion in society. A former staff writer for Roseanne and Saturday Night Special, Betsy Salkind is the author of More Than Once Upon a Time, as well as the blog "Ethel’s Law." After earning her master’s degree at MIT’s Sloan School of Management, she worked briefly as a Federal Reserve bank examiner but left in her mid-twenties to pursue a career in stand-up comedy. Best known as “Squirrel Lady,” Betsy has appeared on Girls’ Night Out, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and Showtime’s Fierce Funny Women. She also wrote and performed the one-woman satire Anne Frank Superstar. In her spare time, Betsy has lobbied and organized for the National Association to Protect Children and was instrumental in changing California law to offer equal protection to children who have been sexually abused by family members.
